Under new ownership, with a goal to reinvigorate this Calistoga hospitality landmark to appeal to a new generation of wellness enthusiasts, we wanted to simultaneously honor the original founder Doc Wilkinson’s pioneering vision of harnessing the pleasure and health benefits of mineral water and mud bathing, while creating a more intentional and elevated setting to experience these timeless rituals and other wellness offerings.
Channeling the feel-good effects of Mother Nature and leveraging the property’s prime location, we sought to highlight the connection to the community while extending the spa setting outdoors, expanding the opportunities to soak up the famed healing waters and natural surroundings in social or solitary fashion.
In conjunction with SB Architects and EDG Design, the architecture and interior spaces have been thoughtfully updated while still retaining the property’s relaxed mid-century vibe, while noted local landscape designer Paige Martin created an enchanting garden setting for a very fresh take on spa and wellness.
