Q&A With Catherine Stenberg

Catherine joins the TLEE Spas + Wellness team as our Business Development + Marketing Coordinator in our San Francisco office. Catherine recently embarked on a journey to Iceland with her family, immersing herself in the natural waters, wonders, and rich culture that form the roots of spa culture. We completed a brief Q+A to learn a little bit more…

Tell us about Iceland, what was your favorite takeaway?

My favorite take away from Iceland was the natural beauty of the country. We completed many stops around Golden Circle, beginning in the capital, Reykjavik. We traveled further South to Hella and even further to Vik. On the way, we stopped at many destinations including Thingvellir National Park, Faxi Waterfall, Strokkur Geyser, Horseback riding, Seljanlandsfoss Waterfall, and many more incredible landmarks!

What was it like to experience the natural hot springs and nature in Iceland?

Experiencing the Icelandic bathing culture was truly remarkable, and we had the opportunity to do so at both the Sky Lagoon and Blue Lagoon. At the Sky Lagoon, an oceanside geothermal lagoon, we were guided through a seven-step ritual with private changing facilities, as detailed below.

  1. The Lagoon
  2. The Cold Plunge
  3. Sauna
  4. Cold Mist
  5. Sky Body Scrub
  6. Steam
  7. Shower

The Blue Lagoon, one of the 25 Wonders of the World, is a universe of healing waters in the heart of a volcanic landscape. We received three masks: an algae anti aging mask, a silica mud mask, and a lava mask. All were incredible!

What will you take forward from your experience?

My experience has further fueled my passion for travel! I will take forward the importance of nature and utilizing the simplistic beauty of a property into the wellness destinations we create.

What inspired you to continue full-time with TLEE Spas?

I’m inspired by the atmosphere at TLEE Spas + Wellness and SB Architects. With a “work hard, play hard” mentality, the team is competitive, kind, and continuously shines at the top of our industry. I’m confident the team will continue to provide mentorship to help me grow in my role, and learn the in’s and out’s of the spa and wellness industry.

What are you most looking forward to in San Francisco?

I’m excited to meet new people, explore new places, and begin my full-time career in an office setting! I’m looking forward to my responsibilities and independence growing while being in-person in a new city.
